So I was very disappointed to learn at the golf show yesterday that one of my favorite courses in Ocean City, Maryland has closed for good. The Bay club is no more and it appears doomed to development. Not cool!!

The Bay Club has a rich history of 30 years of serving a wonderful membership with a dedicated staff. When the Carl M. Freeman Companies purchased the property in 2000, we continued to showcase this beautiful course and staff to the region. Upon review of the 2018 golf season results and our projections for the upcoming year, the Carl M. Freeman Companies has determined that we will discontinue the golf club operations.

The last day of operations will be January 31st, after which all operations at The Bay Club will cease. We want to ensure the last few weeks of operations are positive for all involved. We have developed severance packages for employees but will do our best to move staff to other properties within the Freeman Companies and the Troon network. Golf shop merchandise will be available to members in good standing at a discount. For golfers who are looking for a golf membership opportunity, please consider Bayside in Fenwick Island, DE or Bear Trap Dunes in Ocean View, DE.

Over these years we have continued to explore alternatives for this property that would best serve the needs of our great communities of Berlin and Worcester County. We will continue to work toward ensuring that the property is an asset to the community while meeting the high standards of the Carl M. Freeman Companies.

This has been a very difficult decision and we have explored many options to keep the club open. However, due to increasing costs and decreasing revenues, the club must be closed. We have many friends here that have played an important part in our lives. We are thankful for the many years of loyal patronage of our great members and are grateful for the dedicated staff that has made this course so special.

Sincerely,

Michelle DiFebo Freeman
President
Carl M. Freeman Companies

I liked the zoysia grass fairways there. It was like every shot was teed up.

I played the East course this past October, the fairways are great! I'm usually on the West. Loved playing either, they do mention a lack of play as one reason for closing. I guess it's true, one of the big reasons I love this place is, I often had the whole place to myself!

Got to play there once many years ago with the thought of returning. Sorry to see it go by the wayside.

I'm a little surprised at how much this is bothering me. I've played many enjoyable rounds here, looked forward to it every time I go down there. This is my usual 36 hole walk.

Now imagine if it was your Home course. I have 300 single family homes on top of Hillcrest. 4 years later and I still miss that place.

I'm pretty sure there's been talk from time to time of turning Rancocas into driveways. So far so good! I guess I'd be at Riverwinds more if it ever happened. Ever get the urge to go back and drop a few 5 iron shots on the roof now over the 4th green? Thinking back, some of the best photos I've taken on a golf course are from Bay Club.

The big Bald Eagle behind the 8th green, the morning sun back lighting the range, the mist rising behind the lone gnarled pine from the pond. All these memories will be lost in time, like tears in rain... Time to die!

Yeah, but it's my favorite driveway to play in!

Rancocas may not be Tobacco Road, Caledonia, or some other elite courses but it certainly not a goat track. It has character plus Wil Wheaton.

I played the East Course a couple of times, though it's been years. Was not a bad track. One of our old programmers worked there in his college years.
